Hi! I've only just discovered this forum and had to join as soon as possible! I love garter snakes. The very first pet snakes I ever saw were garters, the very first pet snakes I ever owned were garters, and I still keep garters to this day. They are such delightful little snakes, always so friendly and inquisitive and ready to interact.
They were always the "starter snake" of choice in the UK when I first started keeping them almost 30 years ago. That position has been usurped by the corn snake, to the extent that it can be very difficult even to obtain garters here in the UK now, which I find very sad. I keep corn snakes too and appreciate their charms immensely, but there's nothing like a garter.
