Mama was too when she was done. We couldn't believe it was her. She barely looked like the same snake, you know, without the big chubby "hips"

It's almost scary how thin she looks with all her loose pregnant skin.

A few meals and she'll be back to normal.
Same thing occurs with my radixes.
After they slam down a few fuzzies they take their normal shape again.
She deserves a special treat or at least extras.

Food intake after fertilization has a big impact on whether or not they look "caved in" after giving birth. After fertilization, food intake usually increases dramatically. She is not "eating for two" like people tend to think. That all goes to replenish mom's reserves since the babies get all they need from the yolks.

If she looks caved in like you say, it's important to get her back to healthy body mass quickly. Feed her as much, and as often as she will take and she will fill back out rather quickly. In the wild, snakes that cannot fill back out before brumating season, stand a higher chance of not making it through the winter.

I try to really pound the food in them during all but the last few weeks of pregnancy. It does seem to help them not look so caved in after having them.
