    Window sash

My adult snake (a 24inch self-caught red sided male) is normally calm-ish when handled, but very jumpy when set down somewhere out of the cage. (i.e., floor, desk etc.) However, the two times I've tried setting him down on the upper sash of my window, he just sits there. He's calmer up there then he is in his cage! He loves it, i think it's the heat coming in.
It's not all that, but for him, who is jumpy out of his cage, it's pretty cool. He'd sit there for hours.

Pointless thread, but I thought i'd share.

    Not pointless.

    The light and heat.

    Yup He loves it.

When I pick him up, he acts anxious to get on the window. "oh good I'm getting picked up! now I can sit on the window... even though I have this nice heat lamp"

If I was to guess, it's because the sunlight provides optical stimulation that he wouldn't get from artificial light and/or heat sources. Or maybe he just likes watching the birds.

I actually have a picture of Green Girl and Little Dude looking out a window. I could almost imagine them saying, "Man, that grass sure does look green. I bet it would feel good crawling through it to look for worms and baby rodents."
People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually, from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey stuff.

Some of my big female radixes look right at the refrigerator when I pick them up.
They are used to me carying them over so they can choose a worm snack.
I think they do look forward to things.

Yeah I wonder if the "true sunlight" bulbs really make their world look the way real sunlight does.

Next spring (when they are bigger and I am not so afraid of them getting away/lost) I am going to buy one of those inexpensive screen cages so they can get some outside time and enjoy some real sunlight.

That's not a bad idea. I used to do that and as soon as I can build another one, I'll be doing it again.

Haha, you could leave him there as a window decoration. He'd love it

I think they can definitely look forward to things and get entertainment from watching stuff.. We used to have a big beta fish in a bowl right beside Houdini's tank. He spent all his time obsessing over it, and the fish spent all it's time trying to attack him through two layers of glass. It was kind of cute.

yeah, I think the reason he doesn't like the floor is because it;s a big open space with no place to hide... than again he hates the desk.

Yeah, my brother has an aquarium. If my snake is panicking and he see the fish, he freezes and stares... I try to get a picture of that it's really funny, but I never can.
