Any garter breeders who will ship to the UK or in UK

Hi i'm looking for T.radix morphs and other garters, just not chequereds as there are plenty of them in the UK. Anyone know of any breeders who are willing to ship to the uk or european breeders that will be at hamm ?

@ kain, it's not so much that people aren't willing to ship from the US to the UK, as it is, the cost and transit duration makes it very impractical. it would cost many times what the snakes are worth, and without proper channels of shipping live reptiles, they will probably arrive dead. To do it proper, costs are around $1,000-$2500 American dollars. If garterkid knows of a better way, I'd love to hear it! I've done plenty of research in hopes of shipping T.s. concinnus to the UK. Not going to happen. It costs far too much and takes too long in transit.

Still, I know that kain wasn't just wanting garters from the US. There has been much talk recently of the lack of garter snakes in the UK. There has also been many stone cold brick walls put up when anyone tries to find a way to remedy that situation.

Unfortunately, unless someone is willing to pay that cost, and then produce offspring right there in the UK like they have done with checkereds, there's not much anyone can do. Various garter snake species just don't freely flow into the UK. Somebody has to pay the high cost, then breed them and sell the babies there in order for the price to be reasonable.

Anyone else feel free to correct me, but it's been my impression that outrageous cost would have to be no issue for you to receive garter snakes from overseas and receive them in the UK. If you were very rich and didn't care about a few thousand dollars for a garter snake, then send me the money and give me an address, and I'll do it.

Shipping to the UK is possible, though one would need to order many animals (or a few very expensive ones) to make it cost feasible.

Best bet would be to find an importer in the UK and try to add on to a shipment coming in from the US.
This would cut costs down a lot- though it would still be costly as people have to make money for going out of their way to arrange this.

I apologize to you Garterkid, I didn't mean for it to sound directed at you. It's just a situation that has frustrated UK residents and myself, plus I'm having a hard time with other personal things that frustrate the heck out of me too, because I seem powerless to do anything about them, much like this UK situation. I was trying to vent some of that frustration, sorry too much landed on you.

And that's the problem. That's why there are so few garters in the UK. They don't demand a high enough price, or when they come in with other shipments, they are usually WC and by the time they reach the right market, most of them die. There's just no connecting of the right people, and not enough quality garters to seek a market outside the US.

I'd love to send some concinnus to a good reputable breeder/ keeper in the UK so they could get a good strong bloodline going but I only have about 58 of them. 49 or so are babies and need special care for about a year in order to save some of them. If I wanted to do that for a year, and had the right recipient, and... and... it's just not happening.

When an item does not demand a high enough price- then volume would have to make up for the cost of export (or in their case-import).

Garters are very hardy, it takes a lot to kill them. As long as the animals are taken decent care of before export they should arrive just fine.

I think who ever brought in various garters to the UK could make a LOT of money if they took the risk of importing them.

However, one must be careful with whom they deal with as far as import/export deals. The amount of people getting ripped of for bogus import/export deals for thousands of dollars makes everyone else nervous to deal with any exporter who are reputable.

Being that the person doing the scam is in another country, not much can be done to get ones funds back either.

I misspoke. I know exactly the method you're talking about. Nobody has enough garters worth enough money to do it. Correction: nobody has enough garters worth enough money and reason to do it since there's enough demand to sell right at home. And this.. and that...round and round it goes.. and so it's no wonder why the UK has very few garters.
