    Unexpected putdown

Talk about highs and lows. I came home from work to find babies. While gathering those little scrubs up I looked into the T.s.parietalis(Red Sided Garter) enclosure and saw my biggest female with her head down. I knew this wasn't good as she's the security snake for that enclosure. I reached in to find a still alive snake but very close to death. I don't have a clue as to why. She's always been a great eater and active snake. Never shown any signs of illness or distress.
I've since place her in the fridge to cool her down, then later tonight I place her in the freezer. My guess is she will pass before the freezer ever becomes necessary. It's a real shame as I had big hope for her.
It's these unknown death that makes keeping garter snakes so frustrating.

I figure you get enough condolences so I'll skip it. I would like to know, am I to assume that this female just gave birth?

No, she had not given birth and wasn't gravid.
