*Sigh* when will babies be ready?

I know that most breeders like to have their lil garters accepting pinkie parts before selling. How old are most gaters at the time they are ready for their new homes? I am seeing lots of news on litters...just wondering how much longer I need to wait for these babies to be well started.

    it all depends
it's actually kind of early in the baby season still
I think most breeders will ship out at around six weeks, and as long as they're eating - not necessarily pinks
many garters will not take pinkie parts and need to be switched when they are big enough to handle whole pinks, which are easier to scent

I'd say any that prove to be healthy and take at least one meal are ready to go out. No point in selling them earlier because some inevitibly won't eat, fail to thrive, and sometimes die.

My policy so far has been to make sure they're eating regularly (both fish and pinkies) and shedding without problems. Or to use the expression people around here use: Until you know they're working like they should. I think I've put all babies up for sale about 1.5 - 2 months after birth. That's about 2 sheds, not including the postnatal one.

I take it nobody is selling what you're looking for yet? It is early. Birthing season is really just getting started.

BTW, what is it you are looking for? Anything specific?

I'm not really looking for anything specific, still familiarizing myself with different species. There are alot of beautiful mutants out there, i just don't think that an expensive morph is in the gameplan for my wallet. I'll probably try a morph once I get some garter experience under my belt. I still haven't decided on a species. I realy have taken a liking to the reddish orange heads of concinnus..and i really like a checkered. Have any ideas on some other choices to look at?Steve has radix...I beleive Shannon is expecting checkereds..who else is a breeder?

There are a lot of great breeders on this forum.
I highly recommend any radix as we adapt very well to them
