I've used European perch since last summer and there are a few things that need to be said about it. The first thing is that the spines (the ones on the back and in the fins) need to be removed. They're there to make swallowing the fish as difficult and painful as possible.

The second thing is that my snakes rejected complete perch (minus the spines of course) after trying to swallow them, most likely because of the rough skin. Cutting the perch into suitable sized slices has worked well for both juvenile garters and my viperine snakes.

Try it anyway. If they don't take perch, mix it with worms and start phasing them out slowly.

If they're anything like our perch, I'm inclined to agree. That's why I only feed the smallest ones I can catch.

    ps.
