first feeding with me

my marcianus just had its first feeding with me and gulped its dinner down, i can relax more now . i reckon it will take dead foods as i gave the fish on tongs and it wasnt moving hardly at all and the snake still took. whats the best dead fish to feed and what supplements are needed and how much?

Trout and salmon fillet are fine. Supplements can be offered in many ways. I tend to use water-soluble vitamins (Reptasol or vetarks BSB) and calcium (Calcimise or Zoo med's liquid calcium) and use these constantly at less than 25% of the recommended dose at every water change. I usually make the solution up in a 2 liter bottle and keep this in the fridge.

I'm not a good person to give advice on supplementaion, but generally B1 - thiamin - is needed, and calcium if the fish contains no bones; how much - I wonder . . .

If you're feeding strips of meat cut from a large fish (e.g. the snake isn't eating the whole animal) then calcium is probably your most important supplement. On top of that, a general multivitamin wouldn't hurt (and is way easier than trying to supplement individual nutrients separately.) It seems that type and availability of supplements differs between Europe and the US (I haven't seen the water-based supplements in my area, for instance) so you'll get the most useful information on that from the locals.

thanks for all the replys, i think ill give it another live fish next feed and then start weaning onto prekilled. I Have a vitamin supplment which i sprinkle on live food for my bearded dragon, vionate, ill use that aswell as some cuttlefish spinlking for calcium. cheers all

Vionate is quite a 'powerful' supplement, if I remember rightly. Have you thought of trying one especially formulated for reptiles, such as 'Reptivite'?

I only use a tiny sprinkle but i didnt realise it was more powerful than others. My bearded dragon has thus far been ok on it. though i will change it if its more harmful than helpful.

it says for all pets and states the different dosages for dogs/cats, reptiles, rodents etc. maybe it would be worth to get one more based around reps.
