whew! am I fortunate once again
my melanistic sirtalis male from Scott suddenly developed a lump and stopped eating
at the first skipped meal I thought it was just because he'd really stuffed himself the meal before, but it didn't go away and with a closer look I realized that the lump was really too far up to be in the gut - more like lung area, and when I felt it, it seemed to be a bone
I just couldn't figure what to do and ended up taking the baby to the rescue
Sean managed to turn the object and work it up and out of the snake - it was a segment of silverside spine, that had gotten lodged sideways and wouldn't go down
I think it's not a good idea to cut them up; I'd cut them lengthwise, but the spine must have broken up somehow
I'm really glad the little guy is fine

I just bought a flat of silversides! Thanks so much for sharing this, I think I may cut the spine out of the pieces I feed until my guys are big enough to take them whole.

Oh, and - nice save! That was some quick thinking.
