    He's a she.

Many of you have followed my thread about my very large radix male that I found. Well, Saturday I was at a friends house and he suggested we take the snake to a friend of his and have it probed. I was all for it being confident that this was a male. Long head, lean boby and a package below the cloaca.
The truth is it's a female that has some kind of infection in her tail.
My first impression about this snake were truer than I realized. She's skinny and I will have to get a fecal check done. I love her anyway and will have to come up with a different name, "Old Man River" just doesn't fit anymore. She has a great attitude and appetite. I guess I can keep searching for that big male radix.

She's really putting on the weight. She came to live with us on 6/17/09 and was 95 grams. For the last week I've noticed how she's really filling out.
Since she had a clean fecal check she must have just been in a low food area. She's at 125 grams now and looks and feels like a big female should. I did notice she has a bulge below her cloaca again. I think the infection has returned to her tail. This will have to be drained and treated. She's a pleasure to have with us. I'm lucky I found her, she may have starved to death or died during brumation from having low stored body fat.

She's at 145 grams and really filling out. I can see her as a big breeder someday. I can't believe how skinny she was when she came to the Ranch.
She's a pinky eating machine. She is a very content snake with a great demeanor. I've got some great radixes here on the Ranch. It will be great this Winter when it's 40 below wind chill and I can spend time with these radixes.

This girl "River", is very impressive. She's got great length and is still filling out. Not over weight but solid. She's a good 4-5 inches longer than most of my big females. I'm going to hold her out of the bredding cycle for the next season. I think her body has beed stressed out enough and I would like her life to stabilize before she starts breeding here on the Ranch. I can see her someday having some very large litters.
Kind of makes me feel sorry for the other radixes in that neighborhood. Food must not be too plentiful.
