    After birthing problems!

As you all know Spot had 19 babies(18 live, 1 stillborn) last Friday. So it's been 5 days since birth. I've noticed she's had some trouble getting around. It's as if she has to pull herself around rather than regular movement. She's alert and back to her old self as far as eating and attitude goes. I don't see any out right paralyses. It could just be sore muscles as she was much bigger this year than when she gave birth last year. My question is have any of you noticed anything like this. I may be jumping the gun(as I always do with my radixes) on being concerned about her but I've never seen this in any of my birthing mothers. Any thoughts would be great. Thanks.

    hm, I wonder . . .
if she seems otherwise normal, I would probably just continue observing her
    I hope she's okay

Possibly try giving her a bit of an electrolyte supplement in her water and a vitamin boost? Hopefully, her body is just re-adjusting after birthing and is struggling to go back to being normal again. I can't say I've noticed this ever myself, but then again I don't really stare at the way my females are crawling after they have babies. I'll try and take note of anything like that this year!

    Shannon,

I don't call what I do staring. I call it observing
To be honest I did try having a staring contest with a few of my radixes but they were too good for me

    Re: After birthing problems!

Looks like I'm going to have to make a Vet. visit for Spot. The paralysis isn't going away. I took her outside for some fresh air and put her in the grass. She can only control the first 1/4 of her body and has to drag the other 3/4. There isn't any visual injury so it looks like an x-ray is called for.
She is eating and defecating just fine and seems to be normal in every other way except for the paralysis. She is a great radix with a great attitude. I hope this is something she will recover from but I don't have much hope of that. It appears she has sustained some kind of spinal injury or possibly a spinal tumor.
What disturbs me the most is the fact the paralysis appears to begin at that spot on her back. Maybe this isn't a birth mark after all.
    Any thoughts out there?

The pressure of the babies and delivering them could well have trapped a nerve or caused an old injury to flare up, I think. It seems really strange. Fingers crossed for her. I hope you'll see this resolved soon.
