Feeding the girls

Tonight was a feeding night for my adult girls(radixes). They come a run'in when they know there's pinkies on the menu.

Everybody searches for something to eat. If one gets spooked and takes off across the enclosure they all chase her down. Hoping they can steal a meal. Only to come running back to me once they realize she has nothing.

This isn't hunger. It's impatients.


I have two more of their sister housed upstairs. They all look just like their mother(BigBig) I sure miss her.

Yes, she is and that's also her name. She is a very aggressive eater. First out of the hide and last to go in.
Last year she wasn't like that. She was a calm eater. Now, she's on the fast track to get big.
She is very pretty and fun to have around. One more years and she'll be ready to have a few babies. Only after I find the right male for her.
I'm one of those over protective fathers. No ones good enough for my girls

at that size can you not feed them small mice?

I must admit I fed my garter for the 1st time last night, compared to my others she was SOOOO quick to come out and grab her mouse.

They get pinkies on rotation. They would rather have pinkies all the time. With worms so free and plentiful this time of the year, they will get worms more often. This would be their most abundant food source this time of the year.

sorry, just re-read my post, sounded harsher than it was meant.

It was a question more than an accusationary comment. I am very new to garter snakes (like a week new) so trying to catch up on how they are looked after. It appears things vary alot between the states and the UK.
