    in the second pic doesnt the one sticking out farthest on the left seem ribbon like? would you say he identified these correctly?

    It's the typical ordinoides postocular stripe that makes them look a bit like ribbons, but they're definitely not ribbons. But I have to say I don't see any wandering garters in either of those pics.

    Ah yes, but many T. ordinoides do not have the post-ocular stripe.... So what is really typical?

    Not all members of the species need to have the postocular stripe to make it typical. It also seems that very few actually lack it completely, there's almost always enough of a stripe to identify the snake as an ordinoides.

    Yes, you are right Stefan. I have been biased due to the fact that so many of the Northwesterns in my area come without the postocular stripe - usually those that have a fading dorsal stripe or virtually no dorsal stripe at all. Del Norte County is a hot spot for patternlessness.

    all babies in the photos are ordinoides...no wanderings. bob does that a lot, catches wild snakes, keeps females, and sells their babies...not what I would call a good thing to do
