Hi Gareth, and welcome to the forum.
Of course we are biased... but there is little similarity between Corns and Garters.
Garters are active, inquisitive, intelligent and full of character. When you have Garters there is always something going on, always movement and action. You don't have those long days of an apparently empty tank, as you do with so many other popular snakes.
Garters are just plain 'interesting'. Get some. Enjoy!
    James.

    Re: Newbie

    yeah
they are all that and I'm trying really hard to find a down-side
they don't get as big as some other snakes - that could be a down-side to someone who's into big and impressive
    but other than that . . .

oh - and welcome to the forum

Well I am a "Newbie" too. But somehow I got a Garter and a corn snake this week. They are both really cool. The corn snake is way slower and not a ton of movement in general, which is less eye candy. Garters are always moving and are very cool to watch. They are both great snakes from my little bit of experience so far.
