    Snake pics last weekend

I found some more garters in a local park last weekend. One was a drooler.

"Oh, bother," said Pooh. And he imploded.

Would I be correct in saying that at least in the top pic that's a gravid female?

I'm not sure. I'm kind of new at this.

Everyone, how do we tell males from females by looking at the tail shape? See first picture.

I say that, based on her (I'm assuming) size and her lumpy appearence by your right hand. I'm new to this too, so I could be way off...

Where are you finding all these snakes? I never see them and I'm by a river and in the woods all the time. You guys have better eyes than I do!

    Which park? Townsend?

Since this is a public forum, and I don't want people going there harassing or killing the snake, I won't say. I hope you understand.

But I will say, where you find frogs, you will find snakes.

Yeah really lucky considering I haven't found anything yet this year.....

If I had to take a guess I'd say female and yes gravid..............

Nice finds and good photos as well. I also think the first one is a gravid female.

I'm gonna go against the flow and say maybe. The bump looks more like a meal instead of babies, and sometimes after catching a snake I notice their vent and lower body swells before the discharge musk. Not saying she isn't gravid, but definitely not in the stage where you could tell.
