    Greetings from California

My son (who is 7 1/2 yrs. old) finally convinced me to let him have a snake around a month and a half ago. I will let you all know right now that I am not a snake person and have been tolerated living under the same roof as his snake. My husband and son have been caring for Slither and just last week tried pinkie mice with no luck. Well this morning my son was estatic to find that Slither had babies! (I believe that there are around 6-7, with one that died in the sac. I was unsure if the process was finished so I would not let him open the cage for fear that he would disturb Slither, so I will not know the exact count until he is home this afternoon.) I told my son I would do as much research as I could while he was at school so he would know what to do now. Any help or links would be greatly appreciated. I am going to start reading through all the threads to see what I can find out.

I just posted a picture under "breeding" so that I could find out what kind of garter snake we have. I tried writing down all the names you guys mention and then googling them, but it was taking forever so I thought maybe you all could save me some time and just let me know what kind of snake we have. Also, when you mention snakes, sometimes you put numbers in front of the specie name, what does that mean? Sorry for being so clueless.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
If you are not really 'snake people', as you say, perhaps the best thing you can do is keep Slither and continue to learn from this forum, but release the babies where their mother was found.
New babies can be a lot of hard work, and of course they will grow and require larger housing.

Welcome to the forum and have fun here

Those are indeed ribbons and I would go for the advice of James and let the little ones go it you don't have that much experience...

Number like 1.2.3 mean the number of male.female.unsexed so in the example:
1 male, 2 female and 3 unsexed animals
    Greetz, Hans

Fear can hold you prisoner. Hope can set you free.

    Re: Greetings from California

Slither was purchased from a pet store and I am hoping that my son and husband will be willing to give them babies to them. I am the only one in the household who is not a snake person. The rest of the family is thrilled with the new additions!
