    twins questions

    are they possible in garter snakes?

    I assume you are talking about monozygotic (i.e. single-egg / identical twins). Theoretically, it should be possible, but I guess they end up as conjoined twins when they develop. Two heads, two tails or other similar deformities.

    it's probably possible for them to completely separate, but without genetic testing, one wouldn't know whether they're identical twins

    that's totally amazing
    the poor babies though - getting all poked out of their eggs
    I could tell, some of them were doing the snake equivalent of thinking
    "if it's this crazy out there, I'll stay in my egg"
    and of course it's possible for thamnophis - just not that easy to see when they come out

    If they come out, I bet it's a bit more complicated to give birth to twins, than to lay an egg that contains two developing embryos.
