    Food Source

Hi all we are new to this so any help is gonna be greatly appreciated. My grandaughter just loves her Suzy. Our problem is after researching her the only thing she will eat are slugs. She swims with the goldfish and runs from worms. Are there other options for a food source. We live in the Pacific Northwest and the weather I think is gonna cause us a problem. We have had good luck up till now but it just snowed. Thanks and we'll be visiting.

Hello and welcome to the forum. How strange about your garter not wanting worms, of all things. They're almost always taken by garter snakes. Do you know what type of garter you have, or can you post a picture of it? That might help to tailor the answer to your particular type of snake. In the mean time, make sure that the temperature of Suzy's pen is in the 70s or warmer (preferably in the 80s), and make sure Suzy has plenty of places to hide. If snakes aren't comfortable in their enclosure, they will often refuse food or will be reluctant to take it in front of people. If this is the case, you might have to put the worm, fish, or whatever in the pen and leave for about 1/2 hour. Best wishes,
    Rick

If the snake eats slugs (snails?), you could put the smell of a slug on a pinky, fish or worms.
    That could do the trick.

    Furthermore... welcome here.

Welcome to the forum!. Hmmmmm.....I'd be really interested in this seeing a pic of the slug eater....aka "Suzy". I haven't heard of a garter that took slugs, but not earthworms? One thing you might try (haven't done it yet myself, but don't have any slug eaters)...ZooMed sells canned snails that you could try out. I've fed them to my Northern Bluetongue skink before and wondered if they could be used for slug eaters like Northern Browns (Storeria dekayii) and such. Might be worth a try.

Ummm...yeh, there's nothing there. You might want to check out the "Posting Pics" thread that Cazador set up.
