    Question Sssssnake Help???

    Mmmkay..
So my brothers found a snake outside today!! & wanted to keep it so i said why not? Im almost positive its a Garter snake..dont know what kind i have a picture:

    ((obv. not the bessst quality))
but i put him in a old fish tank with stones for now ( are stones okay??) i have a light on it which is producing soome heat and i have a thing of water for him to cool off/ drink. Its used the water & its swam in it so i guess it likes it? Im not sure what to feed it : /
The kids went outside & found some worms but the snake didnt react ..it was actually kinda of scared of it? they werent big ones either.
This is all i have at the moment at hand until i get the chance to get a proper aquarium .. any tips to make it better for the snake? cause im a newwwb

Hi Shay, and welcome to the forum. The photo is a little fuzzy, but I think what you have there is a Dekays Snake (Storeria dekayi). Their care is very similar to that of the Garter Snake, although their diet is predominantly worms and slugs. You may find that it won't eat initially, until it's had a little while to settle in.....make sure it has plenty of opportunities to hide.

Have a read through this article to get a few basics clear, then please feel free to ask any questions you might have.

Glad to hear it, Shay. Maybe you could post a clearer photo so we can be sure it's a Dekays Snake? Some of our other members keep Dekays, I have had them myself in the past. Very nice snakes.

Welcome to the forum, Shay. I'm sure Jame is correct on the deKayi being the species in your photo. They are very easy to care for, just stay hid 95% of the time though and you don't get to see much of them.
