    i did something horrible!

on tuesday i was driving my motorcycle down a fairly buisy street in my town and i ran over an about 12 inch eastern garter snake. i saw him at the last possible second, i tried to swearve arround it but it was to late. so i pulled over quick, parked my motorcycle and picked him up. he was in shock i think. so i put him in the pocket of my jacket and continued to where i was going. when i got there i put him in a glass container and he just layed there. but after a few hours he perked up and acually got out and disapered. but we found him today and he seemed ok so instead of freaking him out and putting him in a cage, we let him go. i hope he will be ok, i still fell bad for hitting him. but im glad it was on my motorcycle and not my truck

    amazing
the little guy actually survived being run over by a motorcycle
    don't feel too bad
it's hard to stop a fast moving vehicle
the couple of times I've hit animals big enough to notice, it's shaken me and I'd had to pull over to check on them
both times I ended up pulling my victims off the road, so they wouldn't be pulped
in one case there was an additional teary apology to a possible mate or relative

Don't swerve out of the way an injure yourself. I know folks are gonna be mad, but it's just a garter snake. Not worth you seriously hurting yourself.

Snakes are absurdly easy to hit with a car too. You can't see them till the last possible second and they strech out so perfectly. It's as if they are made for it.

I may be a huge garter nut, but wrecking to avoid one can be worse....we had some people on the freeway he zipping along and a dog ran out in the road, they swerved to avoid the dog, rolled the car and were killed.....it's sad, but I would have hit the dog and survived...I hit a deer a number of years back.....it popped out in the road at night and I just held the wheel tight and straight...the deer and car died and myself and my family were ok. I do try to avoid hitting animals as much as possible...I don't like to hit them...but I am not going to sacrifice myself like that...

Swerving is a great way to take a few people with you. There are people behind you and people going the other way. It's bad enough to stand on the brakes, but at least those that crash into you won't have an incredibly high relative speed.
