WOW what a cool snakey morning!!

So I had SUCH a blast this morning with the snakes-- I got to see Miriam the female Puget (well, I'm calling her a female, I don't know what she is yet) shed!!! It was SO funny-- it's feeding day, and I dropped some minnows in her water. She dove in, ate one, and then proceeded to crawl all over the tank rubbing like crazy; I couldn't figure out what was going on, until I finally saw the skin come off her head!! And then I got to watch as she shedded totally--- and then immediately ran back over to the water bowl and ate more!!!! LOL I never expected her to eat right away like that!

And piggy Mordecai ate a WHOLE pinky... I wasn't sure he could, I've still been chopping them up, but there was a smaller one in the bag and I decided to see what he'd do... he got it all down!!! And then he had a HUGE swollen tummy to drag around.

I took tons of pics but I'm at work, will have to post later. It was too fun watching them. :-)

The garters are just SO FUN. You don't have to beg them to eat like you do the ball pythons; they pretty much DEMAND to eat! And they make such a production out of it. They are SO active; they are always out exploring.

The only thing with these two is, I haven't handled them much; they are just so tiny and fast, I'm really afraid of losing them. I don't want them to be afraid of me, but I also don't want to risk losing them!!

The other question I have is-- Miriam is ONLY eating the fish. I put pinkies in the water with the fish but so far no luck. Is she ok for right now?? Is she getting her nutrition from the fish? I have been feeding the feeder fish very well... hoping that nutrition will pass onto her. Mordecai eats both fish and as evidenced, pinkies!!

Wow! That seems fun and exiting to watch! I am new to this, hi everyone! I have no Garter Snakes YET, but my mom is getting me one next month. A baby one, too. My sister is still a bit squeamish about its diet.. worms, fish, pinkies, etc.... she just can't handle feeding one pet another pet. Good thing she doesn't have to watch me chop-chop-chop it up!
