    Wood for terraria

I was wondering if hikory is ok for garter snakes.

Last year, I found nicely sized and relatively old logs in the forest. They were completely debarked and I'd never identified hikory trees in that area (doesn't mean there aren't any) but they have a pretty strong smokey smell that makes me think it's hikory.

I've had some of them in my gray tree frog's terrarium since then and nothing's happened to it....but of course it's not even in the same class as garter snakes, so that's no guarantee of anything.

I would think that if the frog is doing fine with it a Garter should. Frogs being so susceptible to environmental toxins.

They are not just snakes. They're garter snakes.

That's my fall-back guess, but since they're very different organisms, you never know.

Frogs have been the environmental indicators forever. Like Steve said............!
