Safe to feed a garden slug?

I have a 10 yr old checkered garter and was interested in changing his diet up a little. He eats 2 pinkies once a week and is an avid feeder so I wanted to know if it's somewhat safe to feed him a slug in my backyard, scented with a pinky.

Update: I fed him two very small slugs a minute ago, and to my surprise he took them without even scenting them with pinkies and he wanted more. I know garter snakes in the wild sometimes eat slugs so I'm hoping two little ones won't be a problem for him. any thoughts on this would help me decide whether to make this a more regular thing or not.

As long as there is no pesticides being used in the soil it a good idea. My garters love slugs, well not all of them. Some try it and get a mouth full of slime and never try again. Others seem to know that slugs are meant to be eaten as fast as possible.

I feed my adult brownsnakes primarily slugs and they've been alive two years no problems. Just make sure it's pesticide free area and not collected nearby any stagnant pools of water(ponds, vernal pools, etc).

my dad treated the grass with weed killer last summer but I told him not to do it again this year. hopefully the rain has gotten rid of the weed killer by now. And I think I will continue feeding him slugs as snacks and I'll try buying night crawlers also to add to that

Night crawlers are a great food for garter snakes. That is the main food for my wild population and those snakes grow big.
