    Hello from NM

    Hi.

Currently own two kings - Lampropeltis getula splendida. A lovely corn will be arriving in about a week. I like enhanced and planted vivariums. Am planning to have a trio of garters in a large planted custom viv. (some time next year).

Got into snakes about a year ago, because of spinning and weaving.
    Yes, they go together.
Every time I see a new pretty garter I want to get out graph paper and make a pattern draft. Actually, I'm poorly skilled as a weaver, but the inkle belt looms make things as easy as possible. If I get any garter-inspired belts woven, I'll try to post some photos.

There seems to be more information about the natural history of garters than other types. I keep running into garter sites while looking for basic information on the behavoir of the kings. Probably because they are easier to study by congregating at places like Natirce (spell?)?

Nice to have you with us. Just a caution, Be careful handling either your Kings after a garter or vise versa. They don't play well together. Looks like you have many garters in your State. T. c. cyrtopsis (Western blackneck garter snake) - T. e. megalops (Northern Mexican garter snake) - Thamnophis marcianus (Checkered Garter Snake)- T. p. diabolicus (Aridland ribbon snake) - Thamnophis radix (Plains Garter Snake) - Thamnophis rufipunctatus (Narrow-Headed Garter Snake) - T. s. dorsalis (New Mexico garter snake)

    Thanks. I will enjoy.
As for what kind...not sure. Obviously two or a trio will have to get along. No plans to breed, so probably same sex. I really like the Radix that Qwerty has posted pics of recently. Something like that, a basic, classic looking garter with an engaging personality.

This won't be happening any time soon, however. I am OUT of fun money for a while. Just upgraded the heating for two snakes, and bought a complete set-up for a third. Exo Terra enclosures are not cheap, but I am sick of dealing with aquarium tops - huge PITA just to get in and out. I wanted a viv with front doors.

The one time I was in NM I had wanted to find a black neck garter so bad every snake looked like one Welcome to the forums!

ps, you are corrected about the primary literature. The Narcisse snake dens are one of the most studied populations on the planet. I'd recommend Robot Check for natural history information on North American snakes.
