    Manitoba Snake Pits

I'm planning a trip up to Manitoba this year to see the Narcisse hibernacula, and I'm wondering if anyone has any tips on less visited dens? I'd really like to get up close and personal while I'm there! Feel free to message me. Thanks!

I plan to make the trip one year, I think it's one of the great natural sights that I should experience.

Thamneil is probably the forum member closest to the dens.

Here's a tip: those are on private property. Those "less visited" dens that aren't on private property, are off-limits to the public. The ones open for public viewing are "up close and personal" enough, but you won't be allowed to touch, if that's what you had in mind.

You can touch at the controlled dens as long as you only do so on the trails or snakes that are out of the den viewing areas. I believe you are allowed to pick them up but they have to be placed back were they were picked up from.

I guess what i meant is, there's a fence around it. not like you can walk in there and start handling snakes. I'm really not sure what was meant by "up close and personal" but how close does one have to be? It's close enough, it's not like they make you view them from 100 feet away with binoculars.

But if you plan on going some place for lunch afterwards, you probably shouldn't because you probably won't smell too good lol

It turns out that my PI in grad school post-doc'd for the guy who does research in the "non-public" sites. I imagine I'll be able to have some uncommon experiences. So excited! (And I got in touch with Thamneil -- thank you so much for that info!)
