wtf is this on his lip

this is a year or so old concinnus that I bought in August. I was feeding him today and noticed this burnt/dead looking crap under a few of his lip scales.

It looks old which pisses me off because I never saw it despite watching him closely for some period of time each day. I have absolutely no idea how long it's been there. I didn't notice it until now because he's a vicious little ******* who hides all day and tries his very hardest to never be seen or touched even during feeding. And when he is seen, he's got "dirt" all over his face from digging around in the substrate which I guess has camouflaged it until now.

I had to assist him in his last shed, which was three or four weeks ago. It wasn't there or at least wasn't noticeable at the time. For all I know that's what caused it.

    He's behaving and eating normally.

I can try and get better pictures if necessary.

Looks like a minor abrasion or infection. Treating with some diluted Hibiclens using a Q-Tip will probably clear it up. Just my opinion.

That's what I thought at first but it looks nothing like my last infection.

Then maybe it isn't. Probably just an abrasion. The Hibiclens will still help.

Different bacteria could damage the skin in different ways and look different. In the absence of a better option I'd treat it as an infection.

If he's always burrowing around and hiding in the substrate, if the seal on his mouth was even a little bit off he could've gotten dust and whatnot stuck to his mouth and causing irritation. Swabbing it with a wet Q-tip and/or diluted hibiclens should get rid of it pretty quickly.

After mine had a mouth infection and her mouth didn't have a super-tight seal on it, this happened all the time. I had to swab it with water every day or so to keep it from crusting on. Looked kind of like what yours does.

yeah I was thinking it probably had to do with his burrowing. The seal on his mouth is definitely a little off.

I'll put some water and hibiclens on it for a few weeks and see what happens.
