    Fat tax???

Just seen this on the news. They are concidering putting tax on fatty and salty foods to stop obesity :S

How can they possibly justify it? Why dont they try something a bit more possitive like offering fitness training on NHS.

They really do think we are stupid. Tax isn't a punishment, it is meant to be a necasary part of british civilisation. its turning into a bit of a joke now. if the government said "we havnt got enough money, we need more tax" then fair enough. but raising taxes, or adding taxes, when the money isn't needed is rediculous.

sorry. i needed to let that out.

They've been considering it here as well, but I don't think it has lead anywhere. Yet.

As a big fatass myself, I don't know if it's necessarily a bad thing. The income from that tax would regulate itself according to how big the consumption is, at the same time making sure that everybody is "punished" in relation to how much they contribute to the costs related to the consumption of fatty and salty foods. We tax alcohol and tobacco the same way.

However, there is a bit of hypocrisy in that system, since many problems are essentially self-inflicted in the same sense. There is no stupidity tax.

You just cant tax food. Food is a necasary item therefore it should be tax free.

They will put a tax on breathing next claiming that the CO2 is contributing to global warming.

In the UK, take-away food is already taxed, so I guess it's an extention of that "entertainment" principle. In truth though, it's just another stealth tax. Thin end of the wedge if you ask me.

Tax is ridiculous....I get a petrol allowance from my employers, in the form of a monthy payment based on my mileage. So I pay income tax on my salary, I pay tax on the fuel I buy, then I pay tax on the fuel rebate my employers pay me! It's a joke!
