Unhappy Passing of my infernalis - think I fed too large of worm pieces

While going to feed my yearling Californian red-sided neon blue phase garters, I found one had died. My daughter and I are both crushed. Despite how skittish they are relative to our wandering garters, we always loved showing them off and enjoyed how beautifully they were growing. My concern is that I may have goofed and fed them worm pieces that were possibly too long. Is that possible? I just recently started giving them pieces that were about 1 1/2 inches long. Cerberus was 14 inches long. The other snakes in the enclosure are just fine.

Oh no. So sorry for your loss. That doesn't sound near long enough to cause any problems, but I'm definitely not an expert.

i know ekoh is bigger than yours from your picture but i was feeding him full length night crawlers and fat ones too but ive never seen him struggle with them. approx. how long after feeding did this happen? i was wondering because Ekoh pushes his down pretty fast its halfway down his body in no time at all. but honestly i don't think you done anything wrong feeding worms that small. i would imagine you done nothing wrong. very sorry for you and your daughters loss

I doubt it had anything to do with the size of the worm you fed.

Sorry to read of your loss, don't blame yourself sometimes this happens with young snakes. But do check your other snakes in the enclosure and all environmental conditions are correct.

Thanks. It's hard to think I may have been responsible. I appreciate the feedback that my last feeding was not likely the cause.

Yours looks old enough that over-feeding shouldn't be as dangerous like it is for tiny babies. Probably something congenital that couldn't be helped.
