Lukewarm Soakings/baths

I was on another forum and this guy brought up an interesting thought. He said if you give your snake a lukewarm soaking that this would burn or harm your snake. His theory is that our (humans) body temps are 98.6 degrees and if the water feels slightly warm to the touch then the temperature of the water has to be over 98 degrees and this is too hot for snakes.

Any input and thoughts are welcomed..

I've never noticed any adverse/panic reaction from my snakes to a lukewarm bath.

By that logic, we'd only feel warm if it were over 98 degrees outside.

98.6 is a typical core temperature, but our extremities are cooler. I have my aquarium running at 82 degrees and it feels nice and warm.

Using my heat temp gun, my hand and fingers read between 85 and 90. I suppose if the water were that temp it would be fine with the snake. I tell people to use tepid water. A little on the cooler side would be safer than it being to hot.

All of our snakes get bath tub time a couple times a month. They have never had any adverse reactions to the water temps. They love it!

Ask the guy to go check his central air thermostat. If it is set anywhere below 98.6 degrees, then his theory is unsound.

Also think of the warm water they would go into in the wild.

I have a heated pool for my ball in the winter, and a chilled one in the summer. The chiller drops the temp to about 70 degrees and the heater raises it to about 82. the heated feels warm to me, and the chilled feels cool to me. I believe she agrees they are comfy temps since she spends a huge amount of time swimming or soaking.

I don't know...that sounds like strange logic to me. I mean, if you are going by that logic...wouldn't a bath that was above lukewarm temps bother us as well? I understand that we can regulate our own body temps...but also...I doubt that a lukewarm bath is 98 degrees. I think there is a difference between body temp and water temp...or ambient temp for that matter. If you go by that theory...we should all be comfortable sitting in a house that is 98.6 degrees all the time...because it would match our normal body temp...and that doesn't make any sense. I have put my snakes in water that is slightly warmer than lukewarm many times...even my little babies...and they are all fine.
