    Nerodia (water snakes)

I just picked up this gravid female FL banded water snake
    ( Nerodia fasciata pictiventris )

(not this best pix, just took a couple quick shots before dropping her in the cage, didnt want to stress her even more than shipping had already)

anybody else working with Neordia sp. ??
anyone with orange phase mangrove water snakes (a pair) hit me up

Fantastic looking snake, Kevin. I have been considering getting a few Nerodia species, but availability in the UK is erratic at best. Chloe has some though.

    Re: Nerodia (water snakes)

They're not difficult to find here, there's one fairly near here that has been breeding them these last couple of years. Didn't buy any, since they were a mix of two different subspecies. At least, that's what the breeder said last year. To be honest, I'm losing interest in Nerodia.

But that's a fine snake nevertheless. What is the typical Nerodia like, compared to garters? Apart from spending much more time in the water bowl?

yea, i dont really like when people mix subspecies, and frankly I wouldnt buy them either, water snakes arent terribly hard to find here but decent specimens that arent all torn up are!! anyways the fun journey now begins of trying to get this animal eating scented rodents (from which i have read is not an easy task with nerodia, but I'm always up for a new challenge)

I have had Nerodia fasciata (and sipedon) in the past, Kevin, and they switched to scented rodents no problem.

Ooops! I didn't realise it was your next challenge . Actually it was really difficult, I had to try every trick in the book! Try getting them onto muesli...that would be a challenge!

    A very nice one!

I know of some who have them in the Netherlands. Yet some are hesitant to breed with them, because there is so little interest in most of the Nerodia ssp.

    Re: Nerodia (water snakes)

It is the lack of general interest that makes them interesting to me!
