Curious to see what you all think of Dexter's new home. He loves climbing on the aquarium ornamant.

A larger water dish might be better. Something Dexter can get in and swim around. That size will only let him soak.
Just a suggestion. Garter do like their water.

They are not just snakes. They're garter snakes.

I agree with Steve on the water bowl. Other than that looks nice, aquarium ornaments are great for snakes too, I've used a couple of pieces that are really meant to be underwater for fish.

Looks good! But as others have said he would benefit greatly with a bigger water bowl

I have a huge water bowl, but he is only in a 10 gallon tank for the moment. If I put the huge bowl in there it will take up half the tank. I did put him in the bath tub the other day and let him swim around.

I was walking around a local creek near and i saw a really huge garter. Almost a red-ish color. Not sure what species it was. Didnt look like a wandering, but i only got a glimpse.

You might have seen a water snake.
I'd be care of you snake with that cat.
Cats kill/injure a lot of garter and not just outside.

I am always watching my baby kitty, Sabrina, when I have the snake out. She likes to sniff him.
She likes to drink water out of the tub and I think she got upset that the snake was swimming in her 'water bowl'

Nice looking setup! I have the same problem with my younger snake. In a 10 gallon, there's just not much room for a big water dish
