    I'm now wondering

I've found a few listings for Garter snakes that I'd like,
but since I know I'm not going to be fully finished with the snake room till this fall, I now have to wonder. How likely am I to be able to find the sort of snakes I'm wanting come September? If they are being born now and are selling fast, are they likely to have the desirable morphs left this fall, or should I simply plan on purchasing next year??

I don't know too much about breeding/selling, but I do believe most breeders hold on to the babies for a good while till they will sell them. So you might be ok on waiting

You should still be able to find some.
If you are concerned and have certain breeders in mind contact them and ask about their availablity. Some breeders may even hold a snake for you.
    Just an idea.

I'd consider writing the breeders who are expecting what I'd like, If I had not myself agreed to hold animals for people who never came back. I would not be comfortable holding several snakes for some one now, and therefore don't feel really comfortable asking another to do so.

    How about offering a deposit?

I had considered this for just a few seconds longer, then remembered I had taken a deposit. The only way I'd really consider it is if I were to pay in full with a boarding/shipping agreement. I won't feel comfortable about asking boarding untill I know exactlly when my snake room will be finished. I still have to decide on purchased versus built racks as well as the type of enclosures. I would need to know my exact time frame upfront, and I don't know that yet. there may be time since in many cases the snakes are not birthed yet...

If I have to wait till next summer, I have to wait. If that is the case I can prepay this fall, and be first on the waiting lists. that's worst case. It has at least the benifit of not having to worry if there is a snag in any of the construction. <shrug> so I won't love waiting longer, but it may be best for the snakes.

Hey I just wanted to mention that a couple of breeders will sometimes have a late litter born in the fall and/or they might be selling a "holdback" garter snake.
