    Albinos and snows...

I have an albino and I have a snow...but I guess I never knew the difference. I didn't know that you could have an albino and a snow in the same subspecies. We recently discussed different types of albinos...could someone please explain the difference between an albino and a snow?

    Re: Albinos and snows...

albinos are single recessive, snows are double recessive...a double recessive is two recessive traits combined albino x anerythristic and albino x axanthic are the most common ways to produce a snow but not limited to. if the albino has yellow pigment like an albino ball python then you use an axanthic. if the albino has red like an albino corn snake then an anery is used. Those are the very basics.

So an albino is produced using an albino + a regular garter...or a garter that is het for albino + another garter...but a snow has to be produced using an albino + a garter with a recessive trait? Is that right?

Very cool...it's all very interesting. It's just like studying dominant and recessive gene traits in biology...and how people end up with certain genetic disorders and diseases...I studied it in microbiology last summer for nursing. Its all very scientific...love it.
