    Thermostats

A member was just asking me a question about thermostats, and I thought I would mention...I found this thermostat online...it is the best one that I have come across. Decent price, very reliable. I have never had any problems with it, you can plug up to three heating devices into it, and the temp reading on the dial seems to be the closest to the thermometer reading that I have seen compared to other thermostats I have tried.

looks good, but I can't see anywhere where it states what type of thermostat it is, ie dimmer, on/off, pulse? Maybe I'm just being blind

They don't say specifically, but based on this bit of info in the product description I'd say it's an on/off rather than a pulse or dimmer. I'm sure Marnie can confirm as she's running at least one of these.

The Habistat stats are good, I've got 4 (2 matstats and 2 dimmer stats) and not had any problems. I've read a lot of good things about the company's aftersales service, which gives me confidence that I wouldn't end up in an argument getting the stat fixed/replaced if onecdid go wrong.

    Re: Thermostats

It's just a regular on/off thermostat. I'm honestly not even sure what a pulse thermostat is. It just shuts all of your heating devices off should they go above the set heat temp on the dial. The thing I like about this one is that I have three heat devices plugged into it and I have never had it short out on me...unlike the Zilla one that I had...which blew less than a month after I bought it. Also, I have found that the temp on the dial seems to register a reading very close to the reading on my thermometer...they all seem to be a few degrees off, but this one is closer than the readings I have seen with other thermostats I have used. The Zilla one that I used showed readings at least 5 degrees off from the thermometer reading...sometimes more. I now have two of these and plan on buying more for my other tanks.

    Re: Thermostats

pulse thermostats are similar to on/off stats, but are more accurate. With an on/off the temp can generally fluctuate within 5 degrees or so and a pulse near enough keeps it constant, which is why pulse stats are often used in incubators.

    Re: Thermostats

That makes sense. I still monitor my temps with a thermometer with this one, and like I said, it's not always spot on...it is off a few degrees from my thermometer...but, I can't tell you that my thermometer is accurate either. What I really want to get as soon as I have the money is one of the infrared temp gun thermometers...I read on ssnakess that this one is really good and can show you how inaccurate your temps were before you started using it (I think Wayne has one): Pro Exotics Infrared Thermometer Temp Gun Red Laser PE2 | eBay

I use herpstat thermostats. They are proportional and work great.
