    Sexing Questions

I took photos of the snakes but they were to big to send as an attachment to this. I noticed something about my garters bellies. One was bright blue and the other was black. Is that at identifier of sex? Kind of like how some lizards change color during mating season?

Hi and welcome! There is this great image resizer that I use for reducing images for email and uploading. It's free! It's called Mihov Image Resizer. Just Google it or image resizers or reducers. There are a ton of them out there like this one, too, so you can find one easily It will help you to be able to upload images to this forum or anywhere else where size (bytes) is a limiting factor.
Hello, I'm a new owner...found a Garter at work so I decided to keep it. Don't know what kind, but I'm thinking it's an Eastern since I live in WV.

Best way to reduce file size is to cut off the edges of the photo that contains no significant information.

I agree with you, Udo. Cropping out unnecessary background imagery will help to reduce the file size, but the problem really stems from today's digital cameras. As the megapixels go up, so do the bytes. My camera is only a 6-megepixel, which is small by today's standards, but when taking pictures at the highest resolution (and most people do) the pictures average 2.5 to 3mb. Even if I crop out 75-80% of the original, the file size is still too large to upload to this forum. The upload size limit here is like 97kb. That's slightly less than 100k or 1/10 of 1mb. Having software to reduce the image really does help

You can't sex snakes by color I am afraid. But if you get some pics up, some of us should be able to tell you!

Easy way to reduce the file size of the picture would be to open it with any image manipulation software (MS paint if you're using Windows) and simply save it as a ".jpg" which has a much smaller file size than cameras native format. Assuming it's not an ungodly resolution that is

I have good luck uploading to photobucket and then using the picture's url from photobucket to post here. I've heard James say if you upload to the gallery here the the forum software will resize it to use here, too.
