    Wheezing....maybe

I noticed this yesterday that when she is excited and is breathing hard, she makes a little noise. I don't know if you would call it a wheeze or not. I changed from carefresh regular, to ultra carefresh which seems a little more dusty. No discharge, no change in anything, just when breathing hard makes a little noise. Should I change back to the regular carefresh and see what happens?

Agreed. I think the evidence leads you to that change. At minimum to rule it out as a cause.

I'm not too fond of carefresh ultra. Go ahead and see if the wheezing stops.

I'd try paper towels, just to make sure.

CIMG0038.jpgIt's been several days since I've pulled the carefresh out of Zena's tank and the wheezie thing is not as loud as it was, but still there when she gets a little excited. I changed her tank to reptile carpet and she is much more active now. Not sure it's because she likes it, or trying to find the carefresh. I cut the carpet into equal parts, so when she "messes" on it, I can pull out that section, clean the glass then just replace it with a clean one. I'm going to try to sift out the dust on the carefresh and see if I can once again put this in her tank. She just seems to enjoy the burrowing.

The wheezing is just about gone since I've got Zena on the reptile carpet, but she sure does miss the burrowing. Does anyone know of a substrate that is good to burrow in but is dust free? I might try to rinse the carefresh and see what happens.

I use carefresh ultra and only find a little bit of dust at the very bottom of the bag. I buy the 50L bag and grab chunks out when I put it into my snakes enclosure as oppose to tilting the bag and pouring it in. Glad to her Zena is doing better.

I tried the ultra and found it more dusty than the regular.
