Talking New member and proud pappa

My son and I found a garter while doing a spring leaf pick up in our yard a few months ago. The snake looked like it had been hit with a lawnmower and had a big gash near it's neck. My son ( 5yrs ) convinced me to take it in and try and bring it back to health, we bound the wound with gauze and the snake never ate it just kept dipping it's head in the water and looked to be drinking slowly. It started eating after a few weeks and the wound never got infected so all was well. Two nights ago Tommy (the snake ) was very skittish and had been refusing to eat, I couldn't put my finger on what was wrong and it turns out Tommy is a girl and had babys after I left for work this morning. My wife called and left me a voice mail that said " my god their all over the place " and then hung up.
I guess were going to have to think up a new name. I can't wait to get home tonight.

Great job!! Woo hoo the world needs more people like you

The best thing to do in this situation, is to talk it over with your family, and release the babies as close to where you found the mom as possible.

That will greatly reduce any chance of something happening to them in your home.

Good luck, and welcome to the best Garter Snake forum on the net!

Gosh-- it took us a long time to respond-- his original post was on the 16th. Or does he have another thread somewhere? How are they doing, Mikey??

    Hi Lori,
The babies are all doing great, I plan on keeping maybe 2 little ones
and setting the rest free. Mom will also be heading back to the wild, the hard part
will be convincing my son to let her go. When she was recovering my son would
take her out and watch tv with her wrapped in his shirt every night. As a result he's
    pretty attached to Tina.

Oh. Because you know, it seems to me that, aside
from being a little mentally ill, she's pretty normal.

Congrats on the little ones. I read in your other thread that you're planning to keep a couple. Post some pictures soon for us of the lucky adoptees!!
