    Cool 2013 Gartersnake baby thread!

Since we´ve got an exciting season coming up this year, why not start a babythread for the garters that will (hopefully) be born this year!

I will try to keep this updated as good as I can and will even try to get all mum's and dads up as well!!!

Any genetic info on the little ones will be there as well (if I don't forget) and I'm offcourse willing to answer all questions! Either on the forum, by email or in person at the Doncaster Breeders Meeting in September!

So far, only one early litter :bash:

Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis "melanistic" X Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis "flame"

    Mum

    Dad

One of the young showing some red already.
Flames are thought to be a line bred trait and all young have varying amounts of red. Some more then others and this will continue to develop in the next months. It could very well be that all will become red.... and it could also be that about half of them stay 'normal'.
ALL young are 100% het. melanistic.

To show you how they can develop, one of last years young, same kind of paring done by another breeder...

Lets hope I can update this thread soon!!!

    Re: 2013 Gartersnake baby thread!

Time for an update.... three litters today!

First up, only a small one, 7 plus one stillborn.
Thamnophis sirtalis parietalis. Photo's of adults will follow
Mum bred by me, dad F1 bred by me

Thamnophis sirtalis parietalis need about a month before they start showing colour, but with these lines.... Once the red gets true, you will be amazed!

Second litter, a bit bigger with 52....!!! young, one deformed and euthanised and 5 stillborn
Dad is a brother of this guy, just a bit less red

    Mum

Baby (these need to gain colour as well...)

Third litter is just, I'm still flabbergasted!
Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis, high red flame to high red flame
...63 little buggers, sadly 2 kinked and 1 stillborn

    Dad

Mum (got a preggo pic of her as well, showing colour a bit better...)

Cheers... Absolutely stocked with the litter of 63.... Never had that many before! I though the 58 from my parietalis was pretty freakish, but this year seems to top that!

That is a ton of little bellies to fill. Congrats on the litters. The Doncaster show can't get here fast enough for you . Also a good thing you got all the new vivs built, didn't take long to fill those.

Busy day in the Reptile Paradise.

If the third litter are showing so much colour already you shouldn't have problems finding homes for them. Hell, I could be tempted by one of those, if the missus hadn't already put a veto on any new additions (other than two rescue snakes and an orange female radix). Having a young child puts a dampener on any expansion prospects.

Grats on the litter, the babies are so cute.

And yes, I believe 'cute' can be used on snakes. Especially baby snakes(Called scrubs right?).
