First snakes of the year (for me)

These little guys are northwesterns from my backyard in Gresham, OR. I went out to find worms for my littlest snake and happened upon one on the wheelbarrow and then found 5 or 6 more under stones. The one that surprised me the most was the baby. I usually don't see ones that small this early in the season!

Nice, love ordies. I was in Gresham for a week back in the early 2000s. Computer forensic training for the Sheriff's Dept. I loved the rainy weather.

They are not just snakes. They're garter snakes.

I love the ordies I find in the backyard. I've been keeping track of them for the last three years. Gresham is a great place, and I'm lucky enough to live along one of the inner-city creeks so we get snakes and frogs, among other creatures. I've got two ordies at the moment - Creek and Fern. They make a cute little pair in their enclosure. We're considering keeping the little guy I found today, since we would like to add a third snake to the group.

We have a strong breeding population in our backyard, so I'm really lucky to be able to just walk outside and find them. I hope you find some good ones for yourself!
