    ls this a garter snake?

    This is the 4th one l've found in the last 2 years. The other 3 were tiny. Just curious to know what they are. l am in Northern California. Thanks in advance for the help!

    No, that is definitely not a garter snake. Looks like a sharp-tailed snake (Contia tenuis).

    I agree, sharp-tailed... I found one a few years ago and had to ask what it was at the time, too There should be a little pointy hook at the end of it's tail. They're supposed to be very difficult to keep in captivity so are probably better left where found. Thanks for the pic, though. I think they're absolutely beautiful little snakes! The one I found was completely docile, too.
