    Wanted Puget sound garters

I am looking for some Puget sound garters T. s. pickeringi. Prefer CBB trio but will consider WC adult trio if clean. Any sizes and ages considered as long as trio is same age.

    Thanks

    Steve

    Hi Steve,
Do you care what color morph they have, or do you want the standard black and yellow variety?

    Hey Guys,

I only know two colormorphs of Thamnophis sirtalis pickeringii.

    The blue phase

    and the red phase

@Cazador: Do you have a picture or an URL where I can find a pic of the so called pickeringii with the orange dorsal-stripe?

    Best wishes,

    Daniel,
I was just going to ask if anyone knew what type of garter mine was but I think you've answered my question. (probably not the right forum for me to ask in but) This garter was found here in Stanwood Washington so I'm assuming that I am correct in thinking this is the same as the ones above? Please take into consideration that these picts that I have taken have quite a red tinge to them because of the camera, not the snake itself. The underside I've noticed over the last couple months is turning almost a turquoise (s/p) in color. I don't remember he/she being that dark when I found he/she. I have only had experience with garters from the south ( North Carolina) many years ago, I didn't realize that they differed so greatly in colors from there.
    This picture looks VERY red.

Besides the fact that it's out of focus some you can see the 'turqoise' I'm talking about.

Thank you all for having such an informative forum.

    Brittany.

Ps. Daniel there are a TON of these snakes up here in the mid summer, if you are interested in getting any wild caught.

You know I remember reading somewhere that T.s.concinnus and T.s.pickeringii intergrade with each other.....I wonder if the above is this, since none of the other T.s.pickeringii colour phases have any side bars on them???????????

    Re: Wanted Puget sound garters

Yes... and no. There are three color morphs of Puget Sound garters that I'm aware of. The dark (brownish) body with yellow stripes is the most common wild variety. A similar morph has a single red stripe down it's back and yellow stripes on each side. This is the next most common wild variety. The blue morph is probably the least common wild variety, but their beauty makes them fairly popular in the pet trade. Rossman doesn't even talk about their coloration (except for their ground color), probably because of this variety.

Wow, your T.s. pickingerii has a lot of orange. Check out the one in the bottom right corner of Rossman's book (The garter snakes: Ecology and Evolution; color plate 13). That's what I was calling the "standard black and yellow morph." There's a breeder near Seattle Washington who deals with red striped pickeringii. He says they're fairly common where he herps. I'll PM his contact info to you.
