So what would be the advantage to making this stuff? my snakes will already eat whole silversides and they don't even notice if I were to sprinkle some vitamins on it.
Perhaps I'll make a batch for the babies when they're born though. Seems like it would be perfect for little baby concinnus.

The advantage is a method of supplementation. You can more precisely administer the quantity and also some have picky feeders that refuse anything with vitamins sprinkled on them. You can also grind up some whole pinkies into the mix to try and make it more complete on it's own as well.

I also see people talking about salmon and trout pieces.. can I just go to my local Grocery store and buy filets? fresh or frozen? and just sprinkle with Vitamin and feed it?

Yes, However I have had problems with Wal Mart Salmon.
I buy Tilapia for $6 a 2 pound bag.
It's several fillets wrapped in plastic, Just open them one at a time.
