Garters 101
Hi all.. great forum..
Is there a place on this site that shows all or most of the different species of garters out there?? If not, I would love to find one.. Something that has Common Name, Latin Name, and (natural) photo of each species/subspecies. It would really help out in figuring out all the critters folk keep posting about.

We have that in progress here. Check the caresheet section.
If you have photos that are not yet posted on any of the species/ subspecies feel free to jump in.
There is another site like you are looking for. I'll get the adress and post for you.

Hi Billie,
One of the members here (Screen name: Thamnophis) made the best collection of garter snake pictures that I've ever seen on his website. While it's written in Dutch (without English common names), you can get around by clicking on the scientific name. Then click on the "Foto's" box below the scientific name. It'll give you an idea of the wide variety of morphs that each subspecies can exhibit. Here's the link:

Thanks for the link.. Didn't find the foto link, but I went through most of the scientific names.. And fought with an online translator..NOT a wise move..
But well worth seeing one of the untouchable garters... San Francisco garter.. the ultimate prize..

When he has pictures he posts them on the page with the scientific name of that species. It's called "Foto's" ( it's almost photo's isn't it ). For every Dutch speaking person I can highly recommend his site.
I find it actually better to have everything ordered by scientific name, no error can occur.

hello Rick ... thanks so much for sharing this website ! It's fascinating to see so many variations of our *pugets*/ordinoides. Having the locale just adds icing to the cake
thanks much (again),
