can babys garters eat fuzzys?

okay so i sent my husband to the pet store to get pinkies and he comes back with fuzzys saying they didn't have any. so im just trying to see if i can feed my little baby garter these? if so just chop them up as well? i didn't get anything else for him to eat so im hopping this will work.

A baby cant eat a fuzzy. An adult male northwestern would also have a bit of trouble with anything larger than a pinky. Mine can take smaller pinkies, but nothing else. Fuzzies are also more... Well, theres more guts involved with fuzzies than there are with pinkies. But, that said, they can be cut up. Make sure the pieces you offer are smaller or the same size of his head.

they would have to be chopped into little pieces and mixed with chopped worms to scent them.

I've seen my Little Dude eat a frog that was a great deal larger than her own head. It took her a while, but she gulped that sucker down. Snakes are capable of eating things quite larger than their own heads. But whether it would be healthy, or whether they would want to, that's a different story. But generally speaking, it's better to feed things the snake can easily eat, and a good rule of thumb is that the pieces should be no bigger than the snake's head.

That said, the suggestion to mix the fuzzy pieces with worm pieces is a good one. If you chop a fresh nightcrawler, the pieces will continue to wiggle for some time, and the movement and scent will attract the snake's attention.

especially with babies. They need smaller food. You don't want to stretch them out as much as the adults. That's why you feed them less, more frequently.

I wouldn't do fuxxies. No reason.

A lot of snakes don't like to eat the fur on fuzzies, even adults. If you're going to feed those to the babies, you might need to chop and pick out the furry bits. I don't think there's a health issue with the fur, just might be hard to convince babies to eat it.

no health issues I know of.... might not get digested is the only thing.... just makes furry poop =)
