Garters vs Ribbons
Do garters tend to be calmer than ribbons? I know I have seen lots of pictures on here with Garters laying on carpet or beds. I would never trust my ribbon like that. He would run.

That's absolutely true !! Ofcourse there are garters that are a bit stressfull as well, but ribbons have the name for it

My Garters are some jumpy little critters, but that's probably because I accidentally bought WC ones...opps

ribbons are nervous. garters are usually calmer. none of my garters are "calm," i don't handle much, just feed and observe.

Re: Garters vs Ribbons
All mine are captive bred, two are calm (vagrans), one's jumpy as hell (vagrans) and one appears to be bipolar (tetrataenia).

Re: Garters vs Ribbons
I don't think that there's really a difference. One of my ribbons is as calm as my wandering garter, and my maritime garter is jumpier than my other ribbon. I would say that it depends more on the individual, not the subspecies.

Re: Garters vs Ribbons
I definitely lean in the direction that ribbons AND t.s.similis (blue striped garters) are generally more high strung than many other garters. Of course they vary from individual, but I definitely, without a doubt, noticed a difference in temperment overall between many subspecies.

I can't speak for anything but my Radixs. Most are calm and a few are jumpy.
I think it boils down to there individual makeup. I have a group(22) that are all calm and easy to handle. They seem to want to be out.
When I take there hide out, they just look up as if to say "are you going to pick me up".
Then I have another group that scatters when the hide is removed.
They are all so cool!
