Snake Charmer
retained shed? or something else
IMG_8437.jpgIMG_8438.jpg On Checkers head, one of his scales is much whiter than normal, and i tried rubbing it, and gently picking at it and its not coming off, is it a retained shed or something else? He's never had a retained shed on his head scale, let alone this difficult. (if it is a retained shed)

What did the last shed look like? Anything missing on the head shed?

i dont know, the one in the cage is whole, but he's been out of this cage for months.... (i do need to change the bedding)... i dont believe he shed while i was gone, id have to ask my friend who looked after him for a little while.

This look like the same thing I freaked out about not too long ago with my garter Steve. I tried moistening it, nothing changed. All I could do was watch it and see what happened. It came off with his next shed, and his head went back to normal. Here's the thread about Steve. Does this look similar? http://www.thamnophis.com/forum/urge...eves-head.html

I've seen taht before. It's like a dry patch where a new skin failed to develop all the way before the snake shed. Anytime I have seen it, it went back to normal after 1 or 2 sheds.
