Are neon tetras ok as feeders? I don't see them on either list (thiaminase pos. or neg.)

I'm doing some checking right now and I too can't find any info. one way or the other.
Better to play it safe and not feed until you know.

I watched a video in which the guy feeds his Natrix maura tetras.

Are you planning these to be a regular food source?

no, I just want to get her kick-started. I'm going to try some more guppies and some salmon too. If she takes those, I can move her to better things. Ideally, I want her on salmon and mice.

If you're offering guppies there shouldn't be any reason to offer tetras.;) I'm guessing.

I did not read anything bad with Tetra or Giant Danios. Both are a bit pricy but my eastern’s are not eating the Sliver Sides and guppies are just too small now.

So I pick a fish (tropical) from that not on that bad fish list Steve provided. No problems I can see.

well they're making enough noise and movement in the water bowl. she came out to look at them then went back under her rock. what a frustrating situation. ironic considering how long i researched and planned for her arrival. their feeding habits were what attracted me specifically to garters and that's the one thing mine won't do. poetic in a way.

I think this is a metaphysical....kind of mind control thing you've got going on. You are wanting this so much that you are actually making it "not happen". Maybe you need to sit back and just relax and believe it will happen when it happens. Just when you least expect it...she'll surprise you. Be zen about it. ;)

You're probably right. I'm probably hexing her with my evil eye: the only man killed in the Salem witch trials was my ancestor, after all. I hate killing all these animals just to try to get her to eat though. It's like offering sacrifices to a tiny snake goddess.

That's pretty interesting about your ancestor. I dated a crazy guy in high school who was convinced that I was giving him the evil eye every time I walked into a room he was in after we broke up. It worked out well for me though. It meant I never had to deal with him because he went screaming from the room every time I walked in. He did however manage to gain himself a reputation as a crazy person. He was quite entertaining for my friends and me though...and I have to admit, I kind of played into his delusion and glared at him whenever he looked at me...oh I'm terrible! But it still makes me laugh...

Hey...I have a bag of a hundred dead pinkies in my freezer just to feed my snakes. I'm a big animal lover and I had pet rats growing up. I just look at it as the natural order of things. I love my snakes and my snakes need to eat and that is that.

ah, high school. what a great age that was.

i'm fine with killing things as long as she eats them. it's just the fact that i keep wasting them that seems a shame.

Well then you will have to just accept the fact that she is a tiny snake goddess and you are offering her sacrifices in worship of her awesomeness...

I have many snakely gods and goddesses, and if they don't get their way that make my life a living hell!.... Not really, they just give me little pitiful faces.

Nate, I feed all my babies nightcrawlers cut into small pieces (about 1/2 inch) together with pieces of pinkies in a bowl which I keep in the tank over night. That's been working well for me and, as you can tell by her size, it worked well for her while she was here. I tried the occasional guppy but actually got away from it because it's just too expensive for so many little ones. Hope she'll pick up eating soon, I know that it's frustrating when you try and nothing works.

ah, that might explain why she goes cruising at night. yeah, she looks great still. i just need to refine my technique.

There you go! Maybe that's all you needed to know. Maybe she is just used to being feed in a particular way at a certain time. Try feeding her exactly like garterchick said and see if that works...that may be exactly why she is out and about at night...she's looking for food. Maybe it was a time thing.

I can feed any leftovers to my cat, except maybe the worms, but those usually go quickly!

I fed a few tetras to my eastern, but they were strictly a one time treat/ supplimental item.

yeah, she didn't eat them so no worries
