So I just got back from taking Glyph to the vet, found out some interesting things. Turns out he is a male Radix.

Also, the vet was not too keen on the aspen, she recommended newspaper or something that wouldn't get in his eyes.

She also recommended a full color spectrum light, something I thought was not necessary for garters but I know that some reps need it, I think. I had been using the light from the tank I bought in December, which was once a fish tank. I picked one up on the way home. It looks a lot like the same color as the fish tank light, except it's a lot "cleaner"...the color is more vibrant. Other sources I have read up on say the snakes really get their vitamin D3 through their diet...but a UVB light can't hurt. I'll keep y'all posted on how he reacts to it.

Also, this book has come by good recommendation:

Remind me, was this a check up or an issue?

Checkup!

OK, maybe it wasn't anything worth starting a thread over, but there was some debate as to the species/sex and I didn't want to leave anyone hanging.

Visualization. She was very sure of herself too.

I asked her if she needed to probe him and she said no. She said she could tell by the shape of his tail near the vent.

Sounds good.
Glyph is an interesting name but then again, radixes are interesting garter snakes. ;)

I was thinking glyph from petroglyph.

We have lots of those around here.

In fact, we have a whole park dedicated to them.

I think I'm going to order that book...I remember someone else mentioning it on here.

I picked it up here for $12.00:What's Wrong With My Snake (Advanced Vivarium Systems) by John Rossi, Roxanne Rossi: BowTie Press 9781882770847 , - Armadillo Books (http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=6204006129&searchurl=kn%3DWhat%27s%2BWrong%2BWith%2BMy%2BSnak e%3F%26sts%3Dt%26x%3D21%26y%3D10)

If you go looking for it, there are two editions. It was published in 2001 and revised in 2007. You can get the 2001 version for around 5 - 6 bucks (S&H included).

I found it for $10.48 on Amazon...not sure which edition it was.

I found it for $10.48 on Amazon...not sure which edition it was.

I saw that, it looks like the 2007 edition...shipping is another four bucks unless you get free super shipping...and I didn't have $14 more stuff to buy from them. I don't have Amazon Prime either.

The place where I got it from it actually $11.50.

It's kind of expensive but I order so much stuff from amazon that it ends up being more than worth it...I save so much money in shipping fees. If you don't order from there on a regular basis it's probably not worth it though.

It's kind of expensive but I order so much stuff from amazon that it ends up being more than worth it...I save so much money in shipping fees. If you don't order from there on a regular basis it's probably not worth it though.

I generally get 1 - 5 packages a month, I can get a membership for cheap through a family member but I keep forgetting.

Every time I remember to look in to it I had just ordered something from them and didn't remember until I had completed my order. Also, I keep forgetting about it until I am broke, and THEN I remember about it, heh. :p

Still though, I counted how many packages I got from them last year, and it was only 18. And usually I end up getting free super shipping (although slow) or some things come with plain free shipping.

I just went back again and counted, and out of those 18 I probably paid for shipping on 5.

So it's probably not worth it to me.

EasternGirl

Yeah...I probably order something from amazon once a week...so with shipping costs I am saving a ton of money. It is definitely worth it for me...the only problem is when you find something that won't ship through prime...if it comes from a seller other than amazon it doesn't qualify for prime shipping and then I can end up paying a lot for shipping.

angrygamer
01-07-2012, 04:09 PM
Wow, I didn't know that some things can't get shipped through Prime...glad I know that now, I would have thrown a real hissy fit if I had paid for Prime and found out that I can't get something shipped using it!

EasternGirl
01-07-2012, 05:00 PM
It's because not all things on amazon are amazon products...if they are coming from another seller then they don't necessarily get shipped through amazon...sometimes, but not always...if amazon ships them, they qualify for prime.

The other great thing with Prime is that it is better for planning to be in for a delivery, with free next day delivery we just place an order the day before we know we will be in. Better than free standard delivery which may arrive next day, or anytime in the next 5.

EasternGirl
01-07-2012, 05:06 PM
I have also found that often when I order two day shipping I get it the next day...and since two day shipping is free but one day shipping costs a couple bucks...I just do two day shipping unless I absolutely have to have it overnight (since there is no guarantee I'll get it the next day with two day shipping).

angrygamer

♪Oh♪, I forgot about that...depending on how many packages I think I am going to get from them this year, this might seal the deal.

Not necessarily. Perhaps around 10,000 years from now, there will be a park for that. And baffled scientists trying to figure out what the heck it means.:p
