Let's vent...I for one need to...I am so tired of my family and friends (who are not on this forum) not understanding my love and passion for garters. If it were any other animal or any other hobby...I feel that they would be a lot more understanding. I am getting tired of hearing them tell me that I am "obsessed with those snakes" and to stop worrying about "those damn snakes" or telling me that all I care about is my snakes. If my snakes were a couple of poodles, I don't think they would be acting like this. If my hobby were say...golf...I don't think anyone would be acting as if I have some strange addiction or affliction. My family is acting as if I starting smoking crack, or collecting beanie babies and talking to them. If they can't understand my passion, why can't they just leave me alone to be crazy if that is what they think I am? I mean...geeesh!!!

I don't know if you read the wife's post about the customer she served who told her that snakes were evil, spawn of Satan etc... The customer was buying a book to teach her how to care for a puppy... dogs aren't rocket science, just need a bit of common sense.
Char said over the weekend that when she outlives me she's going to be a mad cat and snake woman and sit at home with her snakes, the cat and her knitting. Nobody looks twice at mad cat women do they? Snakes should have equal rights in people's madness.

When I get new pets, I tend to go overboard. I'm on the forums a lot (just learning, you know?) I'm trying to get them acclimated, their new vivs setup, etc. Once we have our routine down, things mellow out a little. I'm sure it's in these hectic change and newness that they say those things.
My ex grumbled about why I needed another snake, but they have three cats. To each his own!

I don't know I think mad cat ladies get a pretty bad wrap too...and that's the thing...what's wrong with having a bunch of cats if that is what makes you happy? Why is there something wrong with people who have a lot of animals or who prefer the company of animals? I want to be a crazy snake lady too...I'm with Char! I would much rather spend my time with my animals than people most of the time. I think my family should move out and give me their bedrooms for reptile rooms...lol.

As someone who works from home more than half the time our spare bedroom is an office, it has shelves for some of the thousands of books we own. The plan is to move house next year so we have a spare room as a nursery. I hope to relocate bookshelves to a dining room or somewhere and replace the bookshelves with rows of vivs so I have company while I work. An office lined with vivs... Perfect working environment.

My house is already a zoo with all of my animals...as I am writing I am separating the dog and the cat who are fighting over a cardboard box...lol. I always joke that if I could get paid for all of the care I give to my animals all day I would probably make a decent living! I figure I will probably be one of those crazy old ladies with a house full of too many animals...talking to all of them and calling them my babies...oh wait a minute...I am that lady already...ha ha!!

No Wayne. If you ship first she'll realise the con before you get the snakes.

Because in most cases (not all) the people who have "too many" animals do not provide sufficient care for them all.
When an elderly person who is living on social security and is surrounded with a hundred furry critters, The animals suffer, They don't get vaccinations, proper health care, and often are allowed to reproduce uncontrollably within the squalor enviroment the are forced to live in.
Same applies to snakes. all too often I read posts on forums (not this one in particular) where certain indaviduals will post on say a Monday " I can't afford to go to the vet" or "I can't afford pinkies" and 2 days later post bragging about the new animal they just picked up.
There has to be a certain amount of restraint involved.

I hear you Wayne...I do. And I agree with that totally. But I am talking about the stigma that women who are older and single and have a bunch of animals are seen in the eyes of the general public as sad and lonely (I'm not talking about truly crazy horders who can't care for their animals)...how people automatically judge people who have a bunch of animals as being crazy...how we are seen as nuts because by some because we care about and love snakes. I'm talking about the fact that my family thinks I'm nuts because I'm spending time taking care of snakes and talking to snakes...but how if they were puppies or kittens nobody would even give it a second thought. It makes me angry and I really think my family should just move out and give me their bedrooms for a reptile room! Then they can go live somewhere else and talk about the crazy snake lady!
