The photos really don't do them justice... I got the chance to look at a few different natrix today, held one of them for a bit, and they look far more stunning in the flesh.
The my favourite was the Dice Snake (Natrix tessellata).

I was thinking the same thing with mine Wayne. It is impressive to see the go after it at meal time.

If they're anything like Natrix maura, your reaction doesn't surprise me at all. They'll eat their own weight and won't even look like they have.

natrix do not seem to know when to stop! I have some garters that will eat a LOT but even they seem to realize at some point that they can't fill themselves up to their neck. Not the natrix!!! They will be stuffed to the gills and still coming at me for more!! Even my subadult male is like that.

So far one of them eats chopped trout just fine, but the other demands living fish, or it won't eat.

They look like long tubes of carbon fiber if you ask me but they are some very beautiful snakes :rolleyes:

Sometimes. Especially when the lack of color is a novelty or rarity like this ordinoides. If they all looked like this I would be a bit less impressed though. I'm sure that natrix have much more going for them then their looks. They sound like they're just plain fun to keep.
